¿Primitiva ciencia ficción?: El episodio de Clavileño (II, 41) en El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha (1605-1615), de Miguel de Cervantes

Corre el rumor de que, pese a su aportaci6n al genero (y a su consideraci6n como referente de las letras hispanas dentro del mismo), Jorge Luis Borges decia que la ciencia-ficcion no era un genero que, en verdad, le interesara mucho dado que todo lo que el mismo pudiera contener de maravilloso y extraordinario ya se encontraba en un libro tan antiguo como Las mil y
una noches. Tal afirmacion me parece un buen punto de partida para el
proposito de este ensayo pues esboza la idea de que un texto milenario pueda ser entendido como parte de un genero nacido a posteriori. Hasta que punto puede decirse que un genero existe realmente desde el momento en que es definido? Es posible encontrar rasgos de dicho genero en obras precedentes a su definici6n y, en principio, no consideradas adscritas al mismo? Que
determina, en la obra de arte, que esta pertenezca a un genero o a otro? Es posible (por entrar en la obra que ocupa estas paginas) considerar El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha (1605-15) de Miguel de Cervantes un texto adscrito a un genero, la ciencia-ficcion, visto principalmente como contemporaneo?
