Los espectros de las ciudades: Sodoma y Gomorra o la modernidad en ruinas en dos cuentos de Leopoldo Lugones
Abstract
En una alegoria muchas veces citada, Walter Benjamin identifica un cuadro de Paul Klee, el Angelus Novus, con el progreso hist6rico. El angel de la historia, nos dice, aunque conmovido por las ruinas del hombre, es empujado ineludiblemente hacia el futuro; su deseo nada puede hacer contra la fuerza incontenible del progreso que se agita, por delante, en forma de tempestad: "The storm irresistibly propels him into the future to which his back is turned, while the pile of debris before him grows skyward. This storm is what we call progress" (257). El marco de la modemidad sobre el que se ha construido la sociedad contemporanea se nos presenta de este modo ambivalente, como lo ha sido siempre, por lo demas, la percepci6n del progreso. La promesa de futuro, a espaldas de la historia, se abre entonces al horizonte, mientras, "ruina sobre ruina", todos los paradigmas tenidos por ciertos se acumulan en el pasado.
