Arquitectura de una metáfora en construcción: El espacio de la casa en la literatura puertorriqueña
Abstract
En Puerto Rico, uno de los discursos socio-culturales más re-visitados y revisados a la luz de las nuevas corrientes teóricas es el de la nacionalidad. Tarea obvia dentro de una comunidad que ha construido su identidad nacional sobre lo cultural, en ausencia de una identidad jurídica. En gran medida este discurso fue reformulado por la Generación del 30 en el espacio del ensayo, aunque fueron los modernistas, particularmente en el espacio poético, quienes construyeron un imaginario hispanista que mitificaba la cultura decimonónica puertorriqueña, basada en los códigos de la cultura de haciendas (Díaz Quiñones, "La isla afortunada" 61-63). Se suponía que la creación de dicha identidad serviria de refreno cultural a los avances de americanización que se produjeron - sobre todo en el ámbito de la educación escolar -a partir de la invasión estadounidense de 1898.
